Hi! Today, we're going to be talking about testable questions, so let's get started!
A TESTABLE QUESTION is, obviously, a question that can be tested. Now this specific kind of question is sort of like MCU's (Marvel Cinematic Universe's) Soul Stone. Although it doesn't need you to throw someone you love off a cliff on Vormir, it does need you to be accurate. For one thing, it doesn't like the word "why" sitting at the beginning of it's beautiful sentence. It likes "how" "does" and "what if". For another, you must have both the time AND resources to figure out your big question. Let's say Dr. Steven Strange can't help but try to figure out if the amount of time he practices his spells determines if he can proceed to the Ancient One's level. He has the Time Stone, so he probably has enough time, and he has the resources (his magic and his textbooks), so, by all means, try it! Again, IT NEEDS TO BE TESTABLE!!!!!!!! Since this process will take time (not a problem for Dr. Strange) make sure it is interesting to YOU as an individual. Having a "boring" subject can lead to negative thoughts, like, "Uggh! Another essay!" or "I'll NEVER get this done!". You need to have a positive, I-can-do-this, attitude. Now even if you have a great attitude towards it, but it is filled with information that is opinionated or biased is not a good, reliable report. You need facts, the whole facts, and nothing but the facts. Those will make your good old factual report a success. Now, you're probably not like Tony Stark, where you have unlimited access to the greatest labs in the world, but you have a pretty great lab here at Niles North high School. But make sure our lab can fulfill YOUR needs. And most of all, HAVE FUN!!!!! That just about wraps it up. Thank you!

Hi! I'm the author of freshmanhonorsbio.weebly.com, and you MUST, absolutely MUST, leave a comment after you read the blog. I have a few rules on how to do this:

I am studying genetic mutations and I do not have a testable question in mind for my project. I don't know anything that I can test and be fun for me while also being someone not really done before.

Delilah, genetics is such a HIGHLY studied area, so I don't really have much to offer. Maybe sciencebuddies.com could help??? Sorry.

I have a few testable questions in mind for my project, but they might be out of my limits as a high school student.

Siri, you may have to choose another question if the Niles North lab can't fulfill your needs. What do you have in mind, though?

If you can't do what you were able to do, that could be something your teacher might help you with.

I have some questions that are testable, but I'm pretty sure there are answers to all of them since genetics is a widely studied topic.

I think that the hardest thing in finding a testable question is our limited knowledge. As a high school student, I haven't had an only biology class until this year, and those classes weren't research oriented. With only knowledge of the basics, finding a question that hasn't been or isn't currently being tested is difficult.

So I have been thinking a lot about what I was gonna do and I really can't find something that is testable or interesting to me. I feel like I might need to change my topic but I'm still really interested in the one I've found. So I'm still looking for projects, but if anyone has got some advice that would be great. (I am studying Virology and Immunology) Thanks.

I have a few questions, although I believe almost all of them already have been tested or already have the solutions. I personally can't really think of a question that is able to be "testable," due to at least one person done it before. Depends on the way you're looking at it.

How do some animals see with physical eyes and others don't? I'm not too sure if this would even be a testable question. I know that later in the week we'll be able to come up with actual questions, but I really don't know about any other topics or questions to come up with.

I am studying the biology and genetics of mental health disorders, specifically anxiety and depression. I haven’t really come up with any testable questions since my subject deals with humans and most research done about mental health is over a long period of time. I could possibly study the likelyhood of inheriting a disorder but I don’t know how I would test it. Since this is also a widely researched topic I’m having trouble coming up with original ideas or questions.

I am studying DNA technology and I have some specific things i would like to research like DNA ranging within animals, humans, and plants. Also i have a testable question of "how can these DNA studies relate for these different organisms and how they are different?

I have questions but it seems as though all of them have already been looked into, and i'm not sure that any are testable at the school anyways.

Genetics is a broad topic so there are many testable questions that can be done in school and hopefully as time goes on I will decide on one or more.

My project is about the evolution of the brain it can be researched but being tested...? My partner and I have been thinking just researching about it and asking other science teachers for their input on the the subject.

My topic is evolution on eyesight and I honestly have no idea on how to come up with a testable question for this topic. If I do come up with a testable question I don't know if I will be able to test it.

Wow! This site is really neat! I am doing a lab on why vines wrap around things like wires and posts. But... now that you mention it... I can't quite wrap myself around a wire (myself being my mind, the wire being a good testible question. Can you help me? I was going to do... "How do vines wrap their tendrills around a object." But I can't quite tell...

Hey, Katie. A testable question is something that (1) no one has done before, or (2) something that you have a passion for that you made into a question. So, wondering why something happens is not a good question. 'How do' is a good question but you have to make sure there is no answer.
